Did you see the new uniforms?

It's baseball season. Honestly this is the season I live for. I've been told that it is very unusual for a "girl" to like baseball. The reasoning is that football is the favored spectator sport of our gender. That may be true, but in my experience it can pay off to be able to hold your own in a conversation between the months of April and October... that does not allow much football conversation.

So, baseball season is now underway. If you know me, you know that I LOVE baseball and can break down the game with almost the best. My 10 minute phone conversation with John Rooney surprised him into giving me the best ticket package ever.

Today, a co-worker that has recently married a Cardinals fan (and has made huge improvements in her knowledge) came over to me and asked a simple, what seemed to her relative question.

"Have you seen the new uniforms?"

In hindsight the answer should have been a simple yes. Which I did say. However, she followed that up with a "And?" This is where I totally stopped being a "girl".

So when asked for my opinion, as I do with any baseball related question, I gave it openly and honestly.
Matheny needs to be concentrating on the real problem at hand, which is the bullpen. (You may now begin taking notes.) The Cardinals are not expected to make it to the play-offs by any "expert" in baseball. This is this team has very similar traits as the 2006 team that I then said was the "sleeper". This has nothing to do with the Brad Pitt movie.

Matheny is in his second full year of managing. The veteran ace on the pitching staff was forced into an early retirement and is not present. The biggest loss there is his leadership. That has become very evident in the bullpen. This is what you should point out to any man that may ask. =)

To my girlfriends, my answer is this: The new uniforms are intended to be a throwback to some glory days that today's fans do not remember. They will only be worn on Saturday, home games. To a fan of the game, this is trivial. It doesn't matter what the uniforms look like, unless, it affects the outcome of the game. The Cardinals won that game decisively, meaning the uniforms are not going to ruin the season. At this point, I have stopped thinking about them.
